FAQ

Can I sell garments made from DIY Patterns designs & patterns?

DIY Patterns designs & patterns fall under the Australian individual use license, meanin you can only make garments from our patterns for personal use/gifts and are not allowed to sell or profit off them. We also don’t design our patterns for commercial production, but we do offer a commercial pattern service. For more information, visit integral-t.com.

I teach a sewing class or hold sewing tutorials, can I use your patterns in my lessons?

Yes, but each student will require their own pattern (as per the individual use license mentioned above). We offer bulk discounts for classes and you can contact us here for more information. We also ask that you credit DIY Patterns in the class description/materials.

I purchased a pattern that got a size update, do I have to purchase the pattern again to get the update?

No, you can contact us directly with your email receipt and we’ll send you the updated PDF free of charge.

Do I pay taxes when I order?

Australian GST is already added to each order, so you don’t be paying any extra tax on top of the price at checkout. For customers in Europe and the UK, see further information below.

Do you offer refunds or exchanges on digital downloads?

Due to the nature of digital downloads, we do not offer refunds or exchanges once purchased, unless the product is faulty. If you have any issues with a PDF from DIY Patterns please contact us directly and we’ll assist you.

How do I print and assemble a PDF pattern?

Once your PDF has downloaded open it using any PDF viewer (we recommend Adobe Reader because it’s free and from a trustworthy source!) and navigate to the Print button (it might be under ‘File’ then ‘Print’). Make sure you’re printing at 100% scale. We recommend printing only the first page to begin with to double check the size. If you have any issues, click here for further information.

How do I make sure the scale is correct?

When printing ensure the scale is set to 100% in the print options and only print the first page, which includes a sizing square that can be measure to check size accuracy. If the scale is incorrect, adjust the percentage before printing accordingly. This may take some trial and error!

Can I take the PDF pattern to a copy shop/printer/Officeworks?

Yes, but ensure you take the copy shop file and not the home printing file. The copy shop PDF contains information on what size paper is required so you’ll know exactly what to ask for.

I’m printing from a phone/tablet, why isn’t it printing to scale?

Phones and tablets often dont’ have a cale option when printing and will print at a default size. If possible, it’s best to print from a PC or laptop.

What sizes do you cover? What do I do if you don’t have my size?

We offer a stock service of Small through 3XL based on Alvanon’s EU Womens’ standard. If you fall outside our stock service you an request a graded pattern based on your measurements here.

How will I receive my PDF pattern?

Once the payment has processed your PDF download will be emailed to you immediately (but it may take a few minutes to arrive). From there you can download and save it to your device.

I can’t open my PDF, what do I do?

Ensure you have a PDF viewer installed on your device. We recommend Adobe Reader because it’s free, but any PDF reader will allow you to open and print the fie. If you have a working program installed that can open other PDFs but not your DIY Patterns download, please contact us and we’ll assist you.

My PDF pattern hasn’t arrived in my email inbox, what do I do?

Ensure when checking out and finalising your purchase that your email address is spelled correctly. In some cases your purchase may end up in your spam or junk folder, so ensure you check there as well. If your purchase doesn’t arrive within a few hours please contact us and we’ll investigate what’s happened.

In cases where your email address was misspelled or the email never arrived, we will manually send another download link directly to you after confirming your purchase.

Do I need an overlocker/serger to make your patterns?

We use an overlocker when making our patterns, but you can easily swap any overlocked edge for zig zag or another seam finish of your choice.

Do your patterns have seam allowance?

Yes, all DIY Patterns patterns have 1cm seam allowance everywhere except necklines and collars, which have 7mm.

Do your patterns use metric or imperial measurements?

DIY Patterns use metric (centimetre) measurements.
